Counting Board App
Age Recommendation 4+ years.
It doesn’t get much simpler than this app, but don’t let that fool you. Counting Board is an application that presents kids with numbers 1-100 and aids in teaching not just straight forward number recognition, but can also be used to teach plus and minus.
The board can work two ways. You can present the child with exposed numbers and then get them to touch what you request, or you can present them with the blocks of colour where they must try to work out where the numbers are placed.
I encourage my kids to use it to teach counting by 2’s, 3’s 5’s and 10’s. I also get them counting forward by 1’s and then backwards. If kids run into difficulty, they can press a hint button which faintly shows all the numbers for around 3 seconds before disappearing. They have used the colours well on the board, each column having it’s own colour to help highlight to kids number patterns.
You can turn the voice on or off. For us it’s on pretty much all the time to help enforce the name of the number. A quick reset button also allows your child to quickly clear the board and restart.
Kids can either work with an adult or alone, either way they will be learning. Alone kids will need no assistance, as there doesn’t have to be a right or wrong. Kids can simply have fun touching the numbers and counting.
Counting Board is currently free at the app store which means you can’t go wrong. A surprisingly versatile app for something so simple.
Compatible with iPad.Requires iOS 4.3 or later.
