Leap Band Review

Well LeapFrog have done it again with their new LeapBand. It fits on the child just like a wrist watch, but is packed with loads of fun activities to get the kids moving and thinking. Even though the age recommendation is 4-7 years, I tried this out on my 3 year old son and he loved it along with my 5 and almost 8 year old.

It begins with choosing your pet. There are many animals to choose from; panda, cat, penguin and more. You can also select the colour and name of your pet and, you can change pet at Leapband1any time which suited my little one very much – he’s a bit indecisive!

Once you have your pet you can get stuck into the fun. “Super Fluffy” will need to be fed, rested and amused at the right times. He also likes to dance and to be washed to keep him happy. The LeapFrog brand creates the cutest of characters, and they have stayed true to this with the LeapBand.

While there are loads of minigames, the LeapBand also has a strong physical element to it. Your child will receive commands such as dance like a chicken timed for 10 seconds or leap like a frog 20 times. When the kids complete these exercises along with playing the mimigames and caring for their pet, they are rewarded with gems and a level system.

My kids found the LeapBand to be highly engaging, but for myself as their mum, what I loved the most was the mobility of the device and the encouragement to get the kids to participate in physical activities.

Leapband2The LeapBand doesn’t stop there though with many of the games involving healthy food and basic nutrition information such as why vegetables are good for us.

Clever as always, the team at LeapFrog have included games that link between the LeapBand and the LeapPad. It has parental controls like introducing ‘quiet time’ when appropriate (school time, bed time etc), and parents can also set challenges (physical activities) for the kids. It’s water resistant (thank goodness) and comes in a range of colours to suit everyone. I am just loving seeing the kids crawl around like turtles and swim like fish. What a great idea to get the kids active while playing with technology. Great job LeapFrog!

It is now available at K Mart, Target, Myer, Big W, David Jones, Toys R Us and Toyworld. If you would like more information go to http://www.leapfrog.com/en-au/products/leapband
